The Tour de France is a truly epic race that sees riders riding 21 days over hill and dale, mountains and flats. The mental and physical strength needed for such an event is enormous and I, for one, love watching it!

In this collage, I’ve borrowed a story (and slightly changed the tale) from my husband’s Great Aunt Philippa. She told us the story of driving in rural France on a vacation and suddenly found herself in the middle of the Tour de France. ‍My story is of Bob, a recreational cyclist who is leading a leisure ride but makes a wrong turn and, *GASP*, they finds themself in the Tour, climbing the gargantuan mountain Alpe d’Huez! The group see their mistake and immediately get off the road. But, Bob, oh Bob, he sees the leader of the Mountain Stages, in his polkadot jersey, just ahead and decides to go for it! He gears down and pushes thru the pain and, guess what, Bob passes not only the Polkadot Jersey but the Yellow Jersey too at the top of Alpe d’Huez! Bob has WON the stage…chapeau, Bob, chapeau! His buddies can’t believe he did this and the crowd goes wild! They rename the mountain Alps d’Bob. His birthday becomes a national holiday! Can this all be true?!? Well, ya, until Bob wakes up

“Wrong Turn” is done on a 3” square canvas with a hook for hanging, no framing required. Actual pieces of magazines, books and other ephemera are used to make this one-of-a-kind piece (no scanning or reproductions used).
