“Not without the Ring” is made entirely from actual snippets from a vintage Scribner’s Magazine, 1890’s, over 100 years old! I love taking cast off ephemera that was headed for the trash can and up cycle it into new art!

The “star’ of this tale, Alfred, is a mustachioed man who has purchased fancy twin beds, from Hoskins and Sewell in NYC with the hopes of wooing Miss Clementine. Alfred, our “Baby Machine”, believes that he’s of superior stock and wants to populate his home town with his offspring. Miss Clementine certainly is smitten with the handsome Alfred but being the upstanding young lady she is, she says firmly “Not without the ring, sir, NOT without the ring!” The back of the collage adds another possibly for Alfred…”The Wroxham Broad might!” “Well, well, I may need the the smelling salts after hearing that", says our righteous Clementine!
